Horizontal well technology can be adapted to many in situ remediation techniques. Groundwater Pump and Treat. A horizontal well is in contact with a larger area of soil or groundwater and therefore can treat a larger mass of contaminates.   The objective of this project was to identify various methods for well test in horizontal wells. Well test analysis in horizontal wells is applied to find the reservoir parameters like permeability and skin factor and the result from the chosen methods will be compared to the result of some famous software like Kappa Saphir, PanSystem, etc which are used in oil and gas industries.

Horizontal wells exhibit vastly different flow regimes, gas holdup and flow patterns than vertical wells. Operating plungers effectively through the heel portion of the well is an extremely challenging aspect as neither vertical nor horizontal models apply, and we have a continually changing geometry as we progress up hole.   Horizontal wells are wells where the reservoir section is drilled at a high angle, typically with a trajectory to keep the well within a specific reservoir interval or hydrocarbon zone. In a strict sense, these wells are rarely perfectly horizontal, but they tend to be near horizontal mostly, generally at an angle greater than 80° from vertical.

RICHARD S. CARDEN has taught drilling, horizontal drilling and underbalanced drilling seminars in the United States and internationally for more than 20 years. He has authored numerous technical papers on directional drilling and underbalanced drilling. He was a contributing author to the Underbalanced Drilling Manual published by GRI. He worked for Grace, Shursen, Moore and Associates (GSM. Horizontal drilling and multistage hydraulic fracturing have unlocked vast quantities of natural gas in shale reservoirs. The lessons learned are being modified to achieve the same success in a rapidly expanding roster of unconventional tight oil plays, from the Wolfberry and Eagle Ford Shale in Texas to the Bakken Shale in North Dakota, the Mississippian Lime in Kansas and Oklahoma, and the.

Horizontal wells are drilled vertically or directionally to the zone of interest and then drilled sideways into the formation. Horizontal well technology gained prominence in the late s and has had a dramatic impact on the rate.

Maximize pay zone: If a vertical well is drilled through a foot-thick reservoir rock, then natural gas or oil can seep into the well through 50 linear feet of "pay zone." However, if the well is turned to horizontal (or the same inclination as the rock unit) and drilled within that rock unit, then the distance of penetration within the pay zone can be much greater.
